The History of Woodland Park ~
The area now known as Woodland Park was inhabited by the Ute Indians for thousands of years. In 1872, a wagon route was blasted through the rocks for access to the land and settlers came in earnest to began to develop the land. After the Midland Railway was complete in 1887, further growth and development came. On December 1, 1890, the town was incorporated.
Because of the natural beauty, the community encompassing Woodland Park real estate became a resort town. It also became a business center, with lumber the primary business, because of its plentiful forests. Several of these logs were used by underground gold mines and the railroads in Victor and Cripple Creek.
