History of Falcon In the early 1800s, the area of Falcon real estate was by two railroads; the Denver & New Orleans and the Chicago & Rock Island railroads. Today, these rail-lines remain an important part of Falcon's history.
On the 20th of September 1888, the town of Falcon, Colorado was announced in the local paper - Colorado Springs Gazette. At that time, land lots were being sold by the Falcon Land and Town Company, which was associated with the Chicago Rock Island Railroad. The town soon took off and, by 1896, the town had two train depots, six saloons, two hotels, a school, a blacksmith shop, stockyards, two general stores, a pool hall and a newspaper.
After the automobile was introduced, the rail system saw a decline in traffic to Falcon real estate. In 1935, the Colorado & Southern rail tracks were washed away during a flood and were not rebuilt. The Rock Island railroad closed soon after. Until 1975, the town had very few homes and one school as it slowly began to grow into the 1980s. A business complex was built in 1984 at the intersection of US 24 and Meridian Road which included a gas station and a convenience store. In 1996, the intersection got its first traffic light. Residential development began at a rapid pace and soon the town had its own post office.
Along with this rapid growth, new amenities started appearing. In 2000, Safeway opened a grocery store. Wal-Mart came in 2005 and Lowe's was soon to follow. The residents voted in 2007 on incorporation, but the proposal was shot down with 78% of residents voting against incorporation. Falcon remains an unincorporated town today.
